Your first acupuncture visit will include a complete patient history, making note of the various symptoms and tendencies unique to you. Any questions you may have will be answered, and before we begin treatment you will be given the opportunity to see the equipment we will be using and have it demonstrated if you like. During the treatment varying sensations may be experienced and are individually based. Generally with acupuncture, patients report feelings of fullness around the needle when it is placed. Other sensations include itching, tingling, the feeling of energy moving, or a quick electrical zing when the needle is first inserted. Your comfort level is of primary importance during an acupuncture treatment and the needles can be adjusted to your satisfaction.

Once the needles are in place, you will be given a period to rest, twenty to forty minutes depending on the condition we are treating and your constitution. During this time, most patients report combined feelings of floating and heaviness. This is typically a very comfortable sensation and many people fall asleep. With the conclusion of the treatment, patients often report being very relaxed, having increased energy, peacefulness, or increased clarity of thought and or vision.

Herbal supplements may be prescribed for you to take to continue care between treatments. Herbs are a very important part of Oriental medicine; in fact, in China they are more widely used than acupuncture! All of our herbs at Longevity Acupuncture are certified free of contaminants and pharmaceuticals. Herbs are given in tablet or tincture form so they are very easy to use. Taking herbs can drastically speed healing and increase the power of acupuncture treatments.
