What is Oriental Medicine?

The term Oriental Medicine refers to a number of different modalities and treatments, all designed to help your body achieve balance. Here in the US, acupuncture is the most widely used of these modalities. Acupuncture is the insertion of thin, sterile, disposable needles into different places on the body. A typical treatment session will include points on the limbs and torso, as well as hands and feet. Occasionally moxibustion, a form of heat therapy is used with the needles. Other potential treatments may include cupping, the use of small suction cups on the skin, tui-na and shiatsu, Chinese therapeutic massage, herbal medicine and nutritional counseling. The choice of modalities depends on each individual's constitution and comfort level.
